Burmese school children in Mae Sot take aim at Aung San Suu Kyi’s brother

An event to mark the 62nd Anniversary of Burma’s Independence Day became decidedly pointed, when students were invited to throw darts at a cartoon of Aung San Oo, brother of Burmese democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi.
Aung San Oo has a reputation for being critical of his sister and is even described as anti-democracy. He recently made headlines when he objected to plans by Aung San Suu Kyi to carry out renovations on the family home. This is the house she has lived in under house arrest for 14 of the last 20 years.
Aung San Oo is the son of General Aung San, the hero of Burma’s struggle for independence from Britain. But, as these pictures taken at Saw High School, a migrant school in Mae Sot suggest he is far from popular with many Burmese.
