Large scale jade mining in northern Burma’s Kachin State is destroying the environment and causing severe health problems for local residents says relief group the Free Burma Rangers (FBR).
An FBR relief team in the area reports mining companies at the Hpakant Jade Mine are causing pollution, erosion and flooding. The companies from Burma, China and other countries are dumping debris into the Uru River or along its banks. . This has resulted in mudslides and flooding that has destroyed hundreds of homes and causes around 30 deaths every year.
Dumping has also caused the local water supply to become contaminated with silt.
Among the health problems found by the relief team are malaria, skin diseases and typhoid, while widespread drug use around the mining communities has caused the spread of HIV and other blood infections.

Wow that is really sad that they do not consider life important. I say this because they don’t care about infections spreading to people. I just think its mean.
