Cyclone Bijli veered away from Burma’s west coast late on Saturday prompting officials to lift an alert.
Earlier, the storm briefly made landfall in Bangladesh, but there were no reports of serious damage.
Bijli comes almost a year after Cyclone Nargis became the worst natural disaster in Burma’s history. It left 140,000 missing or dead.
