Aung San Suu Kyi’s lawyer has requested permission to visit her this week says the Democratic Voice of Burma

U Kyi Win says he went to see the special branch and is now waiting to hear if his request will be granted.

Concern has been raised for the health of the opposition leader following reports that she had stopped accepting food deliveries to her house, where she is held under house arrest (see Aung San Suu Kyi refuses food).

U Kyi Win has already visited Suu Kyi twice this month to discuss her appeal against the extension of her house arrest for another year. But, he said he was confident he would be allowed to see her again.

He said he had applied to see her on Friday. He added that in case he is not allowed to visit her on that date, he had also asked to visit on Monday. “I am relatively sure I will be granted one of these days,” he said.

Suu Kyi has been held under house arrest for 13 of the last 19 years. She is the only Nobel Peace Prize winner currently in detention.
