Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
James 5:14-15
I went over to Mae Tao Clinic this afternoon and began my pastoral care ministry there. Since I am initially only working with the surgical department and only praying with people who are already Christians, there was only one patient for me to pray for. A young Karen man, who was suffering from a gastric condition that meant he was unable to eat solid food.
He was a refugee from Nu Po camp, several hours south of Mae Sot. His family are all in the camp, and are not able to visit him. As I sat on his bed in the tiny little room that he shared with three other patients, and prayed for him, I was filled with a sense of loneliness.
So, as we talked afterwards, I asked him if my translator and I could visit him the next time I was at the clinic. In response, his face lit up with a smile and I knew we were doing something right.
