Following on from yesterday’s post on how the junta ruled a speech and other writings by Independence hero General Aung San will no longer be taught in Burmese high schools (see: Are the SPDC in denial? And I don’t mean a river in Egypt), comes the encouraging news that Aung San’s daughter, Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has been immortalised in a Japanese manga or comic book.

For the first time, Aung San Suu Kyi, The fighting Peacock is available in English. The original Japanese version, part of a series on Nobel Prize winners has been out of print for some time.

However, with the help of a Thai publisher, the comic is now available to English readers.

It is available for download in PDF format from The Irrawaddy’s web site (see here).

It costs US$3.00 for individuals and $30.00 for institutional customers. Profits will go to support Burmese relief ativities.
