New Year, new creation

I spent New Year’s Eve at Pastor Winai’s children’s hostel. After worship, we played games and had a barbeque.
The next day, it was up early for a wedding at a Karen mountain village outside of Mae Sot.
It was my first Karen wedding and I had no idea what to expect – like the bride wearing blue and not white, which was worn by the maid of honor. Someone told me this is because in the jungle it is hard to make white fabric, so brides traditionally don’t wear white.
It was a beautiful sunny day and nothing could spoil the celebrations, although, they did ask me to lead a prayer for the new family. I slipped into my normal long and rambling prose, instead of the typical Karen style prayer, which sounds like an extended shopping list. I suppose I should be grateful that I didn’t start speaking in tongues!
